Dr. Cade

Good morning, you guys! My name is Dr. Cade and I'm sitting here with Coach Cason. And today we're going to talk about adult probiotics and adult digestive issues. We've got a kids video that you can watch as well. But today we're going to just specifically focus on adults. So we'd like to do is talk a little bit about how does somebody know if they've got a digestive issue? How does somebody know if they need to take a product like what we're talking about today and if it can help them?

00:00:22:27 - 00:00:39:18

Dr. Cade

And then we're gonna talk about some of the products and the ones that we choose to have on our shelf, the ones that we trust with our family and the ones that we trust with our patients. So let's jump into it right off the bat Cason and let's talk about symptoms. What are some signs, what are some symptoms that people might be experiencing if they have a digestive issue?

00:00:39:18 - 00:01:01:01

Coach Cason

Well, that's a great question. I think you got to go to the gut first, and that's digestion. So and digestion has everything to do with how you're going to the bathroom. So you got to look at your poop, you got to look at your poop, and there's a stool chart out there called the Bristol Stool Chart.

00:01:01:01 - 00:01:30:24

Coach Cason

You can Google that and you'll find different types of shapes of poop. And so you want to shoot for the nice, round linear stool. And so that's what you should be looking for. And that's one thing that you'll know is going on if you need to take probiotics, maybe you're not pooping enough or you're struggling getting the poop out and it's like pellets and rabbit turds, or maybe you're going too much and it's loose.

00:01:30:24 - 00:01:36:06

Coach Cason

And so that's that's one thing that my mind goes to right away with, with needing a probiotic.

00:01:36:15 - 00:01:56:12

Dr. Cade

Yeah. It's, it's so interesting. You know, that's we talk a lot about stool tests in our office and testing for certain bacteria testing if there's infections or parasites. But the original stool test is just looking and seeing what your poop looks like. I mean, it tells you so much about what's going on. And, you know, my wife always gives me a hard time talking about that and having that conversation with my kids.

00:01:56:26 - 00:02:09:18

Dr. Cade

But it is - it's so important. And those are areas that you can identify if you need to make a change with food or with some of the products we're talking about or other things. So digestion is a big one, right? And anything else? Are there symptoms that people could be experiencing?

00:02:09:20 - 00:02:47:01

Coach Cason

So there's this thing called the Gut-Brain Axis. And the gut and the brain are one in the same. You hear these terms thrown around all the time, like go with your gut or your gut instinct. And so there literally is neurons in our gut and neurons are brain cells. And so, yeah, if you have brain fog, if you have trouble with memory, if you have you're missing words, you know, you're searching for words, just lack of mental clarity a lot of times is a gut issue.

00:02:47:05 - 00:02:49:26

Coach Cason

And probiotics can can really help with that.

00:02:50:04 - 00:03:07:13

Dr. Cade

Yeah, I love it. I think that's so good. There's a great book out there called The Mind-Gut Connection, and it jumps in to some of the things in detail. Dr. Perlmutter has a whole series of that brain-gut connection, you know, and how food affects it, how stress affects it, how toxins and medications affects the health of the gut and the health of the brain.

00:03:07:13 - 00:03:26:21

Dr. Cade

Right. I think his words put were so simply if there's an unhealthy gut, it's an unhealthy brain. And I think Cason talks about brain fog, but if I could just expand upon that, you know, it's linked to A.D.D., it's linked to insomnia, it's linked to anxiety, depression, all of these things that a lot of experience, maybe sometimes on small levels, but on big levels, too.

00:03:27:01 - 00:03:44:14

Dr. Cade

And our first thing is to go after treating the symptoms of those things instead of trying to get to the root cause. And so, you know, the gut is miles away right from the brain. But they are so intimately connected that, you know, you can't get one healthy without the other. So the other things I guess that I would say is going back to digestion.

00:03:44:14 - 00:04:09:01

Dr. Cade

I know we were talking about looking at your poop, but, you know, there was a great quote called or saying, “all disease begins in the gut” and, you know, the immune system is in abundance in the gut. And again, an unhealthy gut is going to equal, you know, an ineffective immune system. But skin issues, eczema, psoriasis, autoimmune issues like Hashimoto's, Thyroiditis, psoriasis, eczema, you know, the list just continues to go on.

00:04:09:01 - 00:04:25:04

Dr. Cade

And so this is a big video, This is a big topic. And I think we're just kind of scratching the surface, to be honest. So if you're experiencing any of those things, it would be a great idea to start looking at your gut. And if you're doing that with food, if you're doing that with maybe essential oils or meditation or breathing, you know, the list is huge.

00:04:25:04 - 00:04:35:22

Dr. Cade

But today we're going to focus on a couple of products that we think can make a really big difference. We've seen it with ourselves personally. Yeah, we've seen it with our patients make a big difference. So what should we start with? Should we start with the probiotics?

00:04:36:18 - 00:04:37:14

Coach Cason

Yeah, why not?

00:04:37:16 - 00:04:44:15

Dr. Cade

Now let's go back a step. One can start with breaking the food down where Cason does digestion begin?

00:04:44:25 - 00:05:08:28

Coach Cason

Yeah. So it starts in the mouth. Well, it actually starts before the mouth. It starts with the eyes when you're looking or thinking or starting to get ready to eat your your brain is starting to create saliva. And saliva is an enzyme. It's got enzymes in it. And so this is Digestzyme-V and these are digestive enzymes.

00:05:08:28 - 00:05:38:01

Coach Cason

And so what they do is they help to splice and break down proteins, fats and carbohydrates. And we need our food to be in smaller pieces in order to absorb it. And so, you know, we don't chew enough. We're always stressed when we're eating, you know, like if you're like me, you're chowing down trying to get all the food in before anybody else can grab it, you know, And it's just this like it's this race that there's no hurry, but we're all in a hurry.

00:05:38:06 - 00:05:59:05

Coach Cason

And so one thing that that does is it keeps the food in too big of particles. Right? And our our you know, our digestive system has a hard time breaking that down. So digestive enzymes can help with that because these are, you know, a little karate choppers that break up all these these food particles. And it helps to digest them much better.

00:05:59:05 - 00:06:09:18

Dr. Cade

It's an excellent visual. And I can only just hope and pray that I have little karate choppers in my gut working overtime. And I hope that you do too. But if you don't, digestive enzymes are there.

00:06:09:18 - 00:06:10:06

Coach Cason

There you go.

00:06:10:14 - 00:06:28:15

Dr. Cade

That's one of our favorite brands. It's got a great wide spectrum of digestive enzymes and it's potent. It's a fantastic one. And so what we recommend people take is either a couple of minutes before or with your two largest meals and you should start beginning to see a change for bloating, for gas, for, you know, discomfort and things like that.

00:06:28:21 - 00:06:43:22

Dr. Cade

That's a great first kind of check to make sure that those enzymes are working. And when you get to a happy spot, you know, we always talk with people with pretty much all of this stuff, but especially digestive enzymes. When you get to a happy spot, you feel like you're digesting your food better because this stuff will help your body overcome and start to digest better.

00:06:43:29 - 00:06:55:02

Dr. Cade

You guys are going the opposite way and start using them as little as possible and hopefully you get off them and you can keep them in the medicine cabinet in case you need them from maybe a cheat meal or a rich meal or something like that.

00:06:55:02 - 00:07:16:24

Coach Cason

So yeah, that's a that's a great point to use them as a tool as you as you need them to help and then when you feel better, back off because you never want to be dependent on something else, right? You have you have all the answers inside and we want to establish that proper digestion on our own without needing something.

00:07:17:01 - 00:07:19:11

Coach Cason

But these are tools. These are great tools that can help.

00:07:19:17 - 00:07:36:02

Dr. Cade

Yeah, I love it. Well, next one is probably the big one. We'll talk about probiotics. And for adults, we've got three different types we always recommend rotating through, and some of these are better for certain things than others. And so we probably won't get too far into that today. But why do we recommend rotating so that we get a diversity of strains?

00:07:36:02 - 00:07:59:06

Dr. Cade

And, you know, that same thing goes with food and, you know, we really shouldn't be eating kibbles ‘n bits, you know, Cheerios cereals every morning. Right? We're getting the same nutrition, we're getting the same types of things. And we're probably also missing the same types of things that we need. So we recommend once you're done with a bottle or two of a certain brand of probiotics is rotating to the next one and again, making sure that you're getting a diversity of strains so that we can have our gut flourish and be healthy.

00:07:59:26 - 00:08:16:02

Dr. Cade

And then maybe picking between three, maybe four different brands and just looping through them. And if you're integrating, you know, fermented foods into your diet that are rich in probiotics like kimchi and sauerkraut, kombucha, those types of things, you don't have to take these things every day. You can start going down to, you know, maybe a couple of times a week.

00:08:16:09 - 00:08:35:20

Dr. Cade

But incorporating them is huge for the things we talked about in the beginning. Immune system, digestion, right? Neurologic health, neurologic development, those things are amazing. So my favorite one to talk about first is going to be RestorFlora. If you have ever been on a round of antibiotics in your life, we know that that stuff doesn't just kill the bad, it kills all of the good.

00:08:35:26 - 00:08:52:19

Dr. Cade

And what's wild about a lot of the bad bacteria in our body is that they're more resilient than the good. They come back faster after a round of antibiotics, and what those things will do is start to overpopulate the gut and lead to a lot of the symptoms that we talked about before. This RestorFlora has a strain of probiotics in it called Saccharomyces boulardii.

00:08:52:19 - 00:09:10:22

Dr. Cade

I promise you, you don't ever have to say that again. You can just remember S. Boulardii. I think that's probably a better thing to say. And that little strain of bacteria is more of a yeast, it's a beneficial yeast. And what that does is create literally fertile soil in the gut for other bacteria to flourish. And it doesn't overpopulate.

00:09:10:22 - 00:09:25:24

Dr. Cade

It creates a balance for others to grow. And, you know, we recommend that to all of our patients who know that they're going to go on an antibiotic if they're sick and they really need it. If they have to go into surgery to all of our kiddos. So again, the antibiotic usage doesn't turn into something bigger.

00:09:25:25 - 00:09:51:08

Coach Cason

Yeah, S. Boulardii is like a very, very studied bacteria or yeast and it's ancient. I've heard stories that these, these old churches, these, these old, you know, monks have like strains of S. Boulardii that they, they hold on to from past generations so that they, they keep growing and they use for medicine.

00:09:51:08 - 00:10:10:11

Dr. Cade

So cool. That was never handed that down from family to family generation and generation. But you can get it in a probiotic, I suppose. So we love that one. No matter what age you are, no matter what your health history is, you know, we always think that that one's beneficial. And again, the research does show that. But having that in your rotation is always going to be helpful for others to flourish.

00:10:10:12 - 00:10:26:03

Dr. Cade

So that was RestorFlora, why don't we go to the next one? Next one is going to be Terraflora®. I love this brand. This brand is awesome. There's probiotics in here, There's prebiotics in here. And I don't know if you noticed, but both of those two brands and our third one that we're going to bring up here in a second are not refrigerated.

00:10:26:10 - 00:11:00:09

Dr. Cade

Right? And what does that mean? A lot of probiotics are a little bit we're supposed to be refrigerated to keep them healthy and alive in the bottle. The probiotics we're all talking about here are what's called spore based. So they are in a protective spore based encapsulation. So when they hit the the hostile environment, the acidity of our stomach acid, that those actually that the acidity almost activates the spores and the good bacteria to start to come out and populate the gut where we want it versus where a lot of the, you know, refrigerated brands, they're kept fragile.

00:11:00:09 - 00:11:14:20

Dr. Cade

Right? They're kept alive, but they're fragile. So when it hits the acidity and the heat of our body, you know, it might have 25 billion as a count of that, the number of probiotics in there. But by the time it gets to the gut, it just it just doesn't survive. Does that does that make sense?

00:11:14:20 - 00:11:26:26

Coach Cason

Yeah. Yeah, it does. I think maybe you should touch on the 25 billion, the CFUs or what these are measured in, do you make a big deal about how many or how little CFUs to use?

00:11:26:26 - 00:11:52:11

Dr. Cade

So that's always a tough topic to answer. And it's tough to, you know, how in depth, I guess we go on this. So that's a count when it leaves the facility where the manufacturing is happening. Right? And so that's never a guarantee that by the time it touches your lips that it has that same count. You know, if somebody is after antibiotics or somebody is in a really sick situation like an autoimmune issue, then we want a high count so that we can try to get more of the beneficial bacteria to the gut.

00:11:52:20 - 00:12:09:05

Dr. Cade

But if you're healthy, if you're well, if you have minimal symptoms, you're doing this for wellness. I would worry less about that quantity and more about the quality and making sure that it is populating your gut from one of these spore based things. So there's always good uses for both sides of the fence. These are the ones that we favor.

00:12:09:05 - 00:12:29:27

Dr. Cade

These are the ones that we've seen the best results with, again, with irritable bowel syndrome, with ulcerative colitis, with Crohn's disease, with other types of autoimmune issues and skin issues. These are the ones that we see the biggest results with. Good question. Good question. Okay. So last one that we're going to talk about is from Klaire and this one is just they're Synbiotic, another shelf stable one that we really prefer the strains in there.

00:12:30:00 - 00:12:57:01

Dr. Cade

And again, part of that rotation process things and brands that we don't carry, there's a wonderful brand out there called Seed and that's a subscription based brand, and they've doing some really unique stuff. There's also a new one from this company. The label almost looks the same, but it's called MegaGenesis and there's a new strain in there called Akkermansia and there's just it's just a never ending study here of how we understand, you know, bacteria in the gut.

00:12:57:01 - 00:13:03:03

Dr. Cade

And if you're up for it, why don't you share with people? Yeah, I mean, maybe the count number between human cells and bacteria cells.

00:13:03:03 - 00:13:29:21

Coach Cason

Well, who knows? Who knows? But it's true. You know, science's best guess is that the bacteria in our gut outnumber us 10 to 1. So for every one of our cells that has our DNA in it, there's ten bacteria. And that's mind blowing, because I think that some studies are saying that there's 10 trillion to 70 trillion human cells.

00:13:30:02 - 00:13:52:27

Coach Cason

And then if the bacteria outnumber us 10 to 1, do the math. I mean, it's it's mega, mega, mega numbers. And so, yeah, we're really shooting at a moving target. And I think that - that's why it's so important for diversity to switch this up to to mix it up you know, because yeah, it's - it can be hard to find a direct hit.

00:13:52:28 - 00:14:10:15

Dr. Cade

I agree things are always changing. We're always learning. So we've got two more products to talk about one I'll talk about it really brief. This is kind of a natural Atrantíl. A natural version of things that will help take away gas, take away pain, take away discomfort. It's just an herbal blend of three different things, and our patients have seen great success with it.

00:14:10:20 - 00:14:27:06

Dr. Cade

And some of the mentors out there and people within the functional medicine space that we follow really have nothing but wonderful things to say about that one. So Atrantíl is great. And it's one of those things where you just take it if and when you need it. It's a wonderful thing to have in the medicine cabinet. So last one, though, that we're going to talk about.

00:14:27:12 - 00:14:32:17

Dr. Cade

I know that this is one of your favorite things to talk about is the fulvic and humic acid blend.

00:14:32:18 - 00:14:44:27

Coach Cason

Yeah, this is this is really cool stuff. This comes from ancient matter of the earth. You know, I think it's volcanic. Volcanic matter, soil. Yeah. Rock, whatever that that is.

00:14:44:27 - 00:14:46:27

Dr. Cade

And liquid dirt in a bottle. Yeah.

00:14:47:11 - 00:15:16:24

Coach Cason

It doesn't taste like it though. It tastes pretty good. And it's, it's loaded with, with minerals, you know, there's gold, there's carbon, there's chloride, there's chromium, there's copper, it's all of them in there. And so what you're doing, this is considered a probiotic, but it's also a multi nutrient blend that's feeding the gut. These minerals, these micronutrients that they need to work and collaborate and synergize with our gut bacteria.

00:15:17:00 - 00:15:23:02

Coach Cason

So this can really, really help a lot of guts. It's helped mine a ton and I know the patients love it.

00:15:23:09 - 00:15:44:05

Dr. Cade

Yeah, that's another one. That's great for adults, it's great for kids, it's great for people with autoimmune issues. And I'm sure many of you have heard that term leaky gut. And it's really when you know that single layer of cells inside our tummy, it's a single layer. It's so fragile and, you know, it allows for food and particles that are in our gut to be digested directly into the bloodstream.

00:15:44:16 - 00:16:08:28

Dr. Cade

But because it's so fragile, you know, it can take a hit pretty, pretty easy. And so when those cells actually create a little bit of a gap, undigested proteins can come and toxins can come in, you know, bacteria, viruses can come in. And what that fulvic humic acid blend does is it actually creates almost like a safety net, almost like a force field that protects that single layer and just provides, you know, again, some armor and some protection so that we're not as sensitive in our gut.

00:16:09:04 - 00:16:25:15

Dr. Cade

And so food sensitivities, autoimmune issues, that's a no brainer to add in. And especially, you know, you don't have to take it all the time if you're eating well. And if you are well, you don't have to take it on every time. But again, as a safety net, when you are out, you don't know exactly what you're exposed to If you're not eating organic.

00:16:26:03 - 00:16:27:11

Dr. Cade

That's a wonderful thing to have.

00:16:27:11 - 00:16:28:23

Coach Cason

Yeah, good tool.

00:16:28:27 - 00:16:31:08

Dr. Cade

Yeah, I agree. Anything else we talk about or are we pretty good there?

00:16:31:08 - 00:16:32:23

Coach Cason

I think we're good. We nailed them.

00:16:32:23 - 00:16:50:08

Dr. Cade

I think so too. So if you are having any issues with digestion, you can always reach out to us. We always will do a free 15 minute consult both in the office and over the phone. And we've did focus a lot on digestion today. But we also talked about neurological issues, right? Insomnia, depression, anxiety, ADD, those types of things.

00:16:50:14 - 00:17:06:11

Dr. Cade

And we also talked a little bit about immune system. So again, if you're struggling with any of those things or just want clarity for you, for your family, just making sure that you're doing the best, don't hesitate to reach out to either one of us, but we would love to help. And we hope that this blessed you and we hope that this helps you take your health to the next level.

00:17:06:11 - 00:17:11:11

Dr. Cade

So thanks for joining us. And next one's coming up that we're going to be talking about the same stuff, but for kids. So -

00:17:11:11 - 00:17:12:12

Coach Cason

Kiddos.

00:17:12:13 - 00:17:14:01

Dr. Cade
